CRC Community Engagement
Preservation of arts and cultures is one of the important missions that a higher educational institution like University of Phayao must accomplish. Moreover, as it belongs to a group of Thailand’s “community-based universities,” University of Phayao has set a clear goal to uplift the locals economically. Together with the preservation of arts and cultures, the concept of cultural enterprise then arises to guide all schools and divisions within the university to bring the goal into fruition.
On November 15, 2022, Chiang Rai Campus, led by Assoc. Prof. Dr. Tipchan Wongchanta, Director, held the “CRC Community Engagement for Cultural Enterprise Project” at Baan Sob Kam Cloth Weaving Learning Center, located at Pratat Phangao Temple, Chiangsean, Chiang Rai Province. The main objectives of the Project were to help the locals to promote their merchandise online and to create partnership between Chiang Rai Campus and the Center, for further developments in the future.
Mrs. Sunee Phonsawat, Head of the Center, kindly presented the history of the Center, the natural and traditional ways of fabric dyeing, and the many and beautiful fabric patterns uniquely to Baan Sob Kam community.
After the presentation, there was a demonstration of cloth weaving by the Center’s group members, all aged women from the community, The Project ended with a visit to the Center’s Cloth Museum that showcased the Center’s achievements. Chiang Rai Campus made a video clip that recorded all of these wonderful things made from local wisdom. The video clip would later help us to share our pride and cultural heritage to the world via YouTube.
